Bengbu Huinong Stevia High Tech Development Limited (“Bengbu”) is a 100% wholly owned foreign enterprise (WOFE) established by GLG in September, 2007.

Bengbu’s focus is on new stevia varieties development and stevia agricultural management. Its activities also include stevia scientific research and growing production & operations as well as technical support to farmers.

Mr. Wang Qibin is Chief Agriculture Scientist for GLG’s China headquarters as well as the General Manager for Bengbu.

IMPORTANCE OF BENGBU IN CHINA’S STEVIA INDUSTRY

 

Bengbu owns the only provincial level stevia institution in China—the Anhui Province Stevia Species Breeding and Cultivation Engineering Technique Research Center. In 2012, GLG’s Bengbu subsidiary established the 3221 Innovation Team to undertake stevia seedling and cultivation innovation.

GLG’s Development of Patented Stevia Varieties

GLG has developed its new stevia varieties through use of its proprietary patented non-GMO technology. After years of research, Bengbu has developed the “Huinong” series of stevia plant varieties, known as H1, H2, H3, H4. The Huinong series have obtained the Science and Technology Achievement Award from the Department of China National Science and Technology. Both the total steviol glycoside (TSG) content and the dry leaf yield for the H3 variety and H4 variety occupy the leading position in China.

Bengbu has four standard stevia seed breeding bases which cover 1000 Mu (167 acres), and 5 stevia seed production bases which can produce thousands of kilograms of seeds per year. This would support thousands of mu of land for growing stevia.

GLG’s Bengbu is also focused on training not only GLG technicians but also farmers on stevia cultivation training courses.

Leading Patented Cultivation Technology

A Professional Agriculture Team Yields Success

The GLG group’s professional agriculture research team has developed new stevia varieties with high dry leaf yield, high Total Steviol Glycoside content, high Rebaudioside A and high resistance to disease by combining single plant nurturing and field trials, systematically selecting superior individuals and selecting excellent combinations.

GLG has filed one international and five national stevia cultivation technology patents. Currently China is the biggest stevia producer in the world and it is estimated that China accounts for 80% of the world’s stevia crop.

Over the past 15 years, GLG’s agricultural expertise has produced the best stevia leaf in the world (disease resistant, large-leafed plants containing, crucially, a high percentage of both rebaudioside A and total glycosides) as well as the only hybrid stevia seed in the world. 

Notably, the H3 series is the only high-RA content seed available for commercial use, and the H4 has the highest content of RA yet. The high levels of total steviol glycosides, RA, leaf yield, and disease resistance make the H3 seed and H4 seedlings the absolute leaders in the stevia industry.
